Keyboard Shortcuts

Quick access to copy and paste functions using keyboard shortcuts.

Default Shortcuts

Umbrella comes with two keyboard shortcuts for quick access:

Copy URLs

 • Windows/Linux: Ctrl+Shift+U
 • Mac: Cmd+Shift+U

Copies URLs from all open tabs in your current window to the clipboard.

Paste URLs

 • Windows/Linux: Ctrl+Shift+Y
 • Mac: Cmd+Shift+Y

Opens URLs from your clipboard in new tabs.

How Shortcuts Work

When you press a keyboard shortcut:

 1. The extension accesses the active page's clipboard
 2. For copy: URLs are formatted according to your default format setting
 3. For paste: URLs are extracted from clipboard content (supports multiple formats)
 4. Visual feedback is shown via the extension badge (✓ for success)

Badge Indicators

After using a shortcut, you'll see a badge on the extension icon:

 • (checkmark): Operation successful
 • ! (exclamation): Warning or partial success
 • (empty set): No URLs found
 • (hourglass): Processing

Badges automatically clear after a few seconds.

Customizing Shortcuts

To change keyboard shortcuts:

 1. Go to chrome://extensions/shortcuts
 2. Find "Umbrella - Copy All URLs"
 3. Click the edit icon next to each command
 4. Press your desired key combination
 5. Click "OK" to save

Note: Some key combinations may be reserved by Chrome or your operating system.

Supported URL Formats for Pasting

When pasting URLs, Umbrella automatically detects and extracts URLs from:

 • Plain text (one URL per line)
 • Markdown links: [title](url)
 • HTML links: title
 • Quoted URLs: "url" or 'url'
 • URL-encoded characters (automatically decoded)

Tips

 • Use shortcuts when you need to quickly save your current tabs
 • Combine with auto-copy disabled for more control over when URLs are copied
 • Shortcuts work even when the popup is not open
 • URLs are always copied in your default format setting
